Farm Box Week 3, crazy weather swings 101 - frost in days!

Hey Flower friends, whew what a week! We had a high of 101 and 2 days later a near freeze!

When the weather got a little moody and we made the call to deliver to everyone early so that you could have fresh cut florals and produce. If we had waited till Wednesday Kebler would have been a mess! We hope you enjoy your box this week which has flowers, tomatoes, eggs, and herbs! Thank you all for being flexible and rolling with the change!

What to do with your sage, basil, and rosemary? Use it fresh or hang it to dry. The basil goes great with the tomatoes especially if you have a little mozzarella and balsamic on hand.

To Air-Dry Your Herbs:

  1. Gather the stems together and tie with string or a rubber band. The smaller the bundle, the easier and faster they will dry.

  2. Put the bundle of herbs, stem-side up, in a paper bag. Tie the end of the bag closed, being sure not to crush the herbs as you do, and poke a few holes in the bag for ventilation.

  3. Hang the bag by the stem end in a warm, well-ventilated room.

Your herbs may be dried and ready to store in as little as one week.

Be sure that they are COMPLETELY dry before you store them in an air tight container.

It was a lot of work to deep harvest as many things as we could and it payed off - we didn’t have too much damage from the weather and mostly avoided the frost! We are thinking of all the farmers around the state that weren’t able to avoid the frost and snow, be ready to show them your love in the coming weeks 💚.

On the plus side I got to enjoy the harvest with this guy and it doesn’t get much better than this!

Next week we may still have tomatoes, but will also share some new potatoes in your box! Withe the cooling temperatures the flowers may slow down a bit, but should be able to keep up for the remaining weeks of Farm Boxes. The apples pictured above taste yummy but are tinny and have a good bit of insect damage. We snack on them anyways, but understand that some folks aren’t into that ;) We also plan to make apple sauce and apple butter! If you are interested in apples over potatoes just get in touch and I can customize your box for you this week.
